Subdivision: 2
Ernakulam district is partitioned into two primary sub-divisions, each of these being further segmented into taluks or revenue divisions. The two distinct sub-divisions within Ernakulam are known as Fort Kochi and Muvattupuzha. Every individual sub-division holds the responsibility for administering a specific geographical area within the district. A Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) is appointed to head each of these sub-divisions, entrusted with the supervision of matters related to law and order, revenue accrual, and various other administrative functionalities.
Furthermore, these sub-divisions are broken down into smaller units called taluks. These taluks bear the responsibility of day-to-day administration of the revenue divisions, playing a vital role in the collection of taxes and other sources of revenue. At the helm of each taluk, there is a designated officer known as the Tahsildar, who undertakes the task of upkeeping records pertaining to land ownership, property taxes, and other revenue-centric affairs. This hierarchical structure of sub-divisional and taluk-level administration collaboratively contributes to the effective and efficient management of the district, ensuring the timely and adept addressing of localized needs and concerns of the communities residing therein.
